Mayor & Council
Council consists of five members and is the governing body of the city. It is responsible for approving all ordinances, resolutions, and the budget. Council must consent to appointments made by the Mayor to city offices, boards, and commissions. The Mayor does not vote, but has appointive, veto powers, and the tie breaker vote.
Mayor & Council also sit as the Assessment Board of Appeals to hear property tax appeals each spring prior to the start of the fiscal year.
Mayor & Council meet on a monthly basis at the Delaware City Fire Company, 815 Fifth Street unless otherwise posted. Regular meetings are held on the third Monday of each month, beginning at 6:30 P.M., unless otherwise posted. Mayor & Council also conduct public hearings and workshops and may hold special or emergency meetings as needed.
The Mayor and members of Council are all elected at-large and serve two year terms. The Mayor and two members of Council are elected in odd numbered years and three members of Council are elected in even numbered years. Municipal elections are held each year on the first Tuesday in April.
The City Manager is appointed by Mayor & Council and serves at their pleasure. The City Manager is the chief administrative officer of the town and is responsible for the day-to-day operations, including personnel, finance and budgeting. Agenda and Minutes
