Tree Committee
General:
The Delaware City Tree Commission is responsible for promoting the health of the City’s tree inventory and is Delaware City’s designated “Tree Authority.” The Commission advises Mayor & Council and the City Manager on policies to protect and manage trees in the town’s parks and street right-of-ways. Each year the Commission approves the tree management plan and the tree planting program.
Delaware City is proud of its trees. They contribute significantly to the attractiveness of the town’s parks and streetscapes and provide important environmental benefits in the form of shade, erosion control, and pollution reduction. Delaware City has been recognized by the Arbor Foundation as a Tree City USA. The Delaware State Forester has designated Delaware City as a Tree Friendly Community.
Membership:
The Tree Commission is authorized by Chapter 8 [pdf], Article IV of the Delaware City Code and consists of the City Manager and up to 6 members appointed by Mayor & Council serving 3 year terms. A representative of the Delaware Community Forestry programs is an ex-officious member of the Commission. The current members of the Tree Commission are:

Regulations:
Trees on public property and in the public right-of-way are protected by the Code. No one may remove, prune, or plant a tree on public propertywithout the permission of the City. Anyone having a concern about the safety or health of a tree (dead branches, low-hanging branches) should contact Town Hall to have the tree inspected by the City’s staff or contract arborist. Delaware City has approved certain species of trees for for planting on public property. Trees on the approved planting list [pdf] have been selected for their growing habits and size, depending upon location and possible interference with utilities.
